Reno-Sparks serves as the medical center for a widespread region that includes portions of eastern California as well as most of northern Nevada, and its medical professionals and facilities are sophisticated as any in the nation. Four major hospitals serve the region:
Renown Medical Center in the heart of the city is a Level II trauma center and provides specialties including cancer, heart, neurosciences, orthopedics, surgery, intensive care, and women’s and children’s services. It also is home to a newly renovated and redesigned Children’s Hospital.
Renown South Meadows Medical Center, the region’s newest hospital, provides 24-hour emergency services at 10101 Double R Blvd. as well as medical and surgical services and assisted-living facilities. Its spacious rooms, excellent dining and personalized care win top scores in patient satisfaction surveys.
Saint Mary’s Regional Medical Center at the western edge of downtown is a 380-bed facility whose 850 affiliated medical providers use the latest technology to deliver medical and surgical care. Founded more than a century ago, Saint Mary’s has been nationally recognized for its expertise in specialties that range from oncology services to bariatric surgery.
Northern Nevada Medical Center, a 108-bed acute care hospital located just east of Vista Boulevard on Prater Way in Sparks, provides a comprehensive range of medical specialties and services as well as a 24- hour emergency room. Among its specialized services are an advanced wound-treatment center and the Senior Bridges program, which meets the behavioral and medical needs of the elderly.
Along with those major hospitals, Reno and Sparks are home to specialized treatment facilities such as rehabilitation and psychiatric hospitals. A full range of skilled nursing facilities also are available. Nearly every medical specialty is well-represented in the Reno and Sparks area. A full complement of health practitioners also help to meet the needs of northern Nevada residents. Important medical research, meanwhile, is completed at the University of Nevada Medical School, work that inspires excellence throughout the region’s medical community. Its Center of Biomedical Research Excellence is helping to solve some of the most challenging problems in medicine. At the same time, medical students provide free treatment to people in need, helping build a tradition of caring to accompany scientific advances. High-tech, high-touch: It’s the story of medical care in Reno and Sparks.
